Another Slice of Cake is a bakery in historic downtown Frederick, Maryland, specializing in custom cakes for birthdays, weddings and other celebrations, along with made-to-order cupcakes, muffins and baked goods made using homegrown or locally sourced fresh produce. Here is an overview of what we bake. Items and availability change with the seasons, so check the shop for what you can order today.
Celebration and custom cakes
Our cakes are made with three layers of cake, filled and covered in buttercream. A 6-inch cake serves about 10 to 12 people and an 8-inch cake about 20 to 24. Choose a ready-designed cake such as the 6" Classic Vanilla Birthday Cake, Chocolate Lover's Overload Cake (6"), 6" Strawberry Chocolate Cake, 6" Snickers Cake, 8" Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake or 6" Floral Buttercream Cake, or have something designed just for you.
- Custom Cakes: designed around your request, finished in buttercream and/or fondant.
- Two-Tier Custom Cakes: for bigger celebrations, priced by design.
- Wedding Cakes: priced per serving, depending on the level of decoration.
Cupcakes
Cupcakes are sold by the dozen. Favorites include Strawberry Cupcakes (1 Dozen) made with fresh strawberries, Red Velvet Cupcakes (1 Dozen) with cream cheese buttercream, Lemon Meringue Cupcakes (1 Dozen) filled with lemon curd, and Vanilla Cupcakes with Chocolate Buttercream (1 Dozen). For parties and events, Custom Decorated Cupcakes are individually decorated with a hand-cut fondant topper or decorative buttercream piping to match your theme.
Scones and afternoon tea
Our Scones (Half Dozen) are baked to order in flavors such as maple pecan, cherry almond, lemon and orange, and Maple Pecan Scones (1 Dozen) come with a browned butter icing. Our Afternoon Tea is served on a three-tier platter with savory sandwiches, cakes, English biscuits and scones with jam and clotted cream.
Loaf and bundt cakes
Perfect with a cup of tea or coffee: Irish Apple Cake, Whole Orange Cake, Blueberry Lemon Ricotta Cake, and in the fall the Apple Pumpkin Pecan Bundt Cake and Decorated Pumpkin Bundt Cake.
Pies and seasonal specials
For the holidays we bake pies with a buttery shortcrust pastry, including the 9" Pumpkin Pie and 9" Bourbon Pecan Pie, as well as an English Christmas Cake with marzipan and fondant. Seasonal gift boxes appear around Valentine's Day and Mother's Day, and our Treat Boxes are filled with an assortment of freshly baked goods.
How to order
Ready-designed items can be ordered through the shop. For custom cakes, send us your inspiration pictures and the details of your order, such as flavor, filling and number of servings; a 40% non-refundable deposit is required once a custom order is placed.
